Batteries
As a partner in the “Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!” program by Call to Recycle, Laurentide Environment receives used batteries at its Battery Processing and Recovery Center at the Shawinigan, Quebec facility. These batteries are collected from various drop-off points across Quebec. Following a rigorous process, the batteries are then sorted by chemical composition: zinc, cadmium, cobalt, lead, nickel, and lithium.
Alkaline batteries are crushed and filtered according to material types to recover each category of material. Some materials are directly used to produce post-consumer products, while others are responsibly disposed of. Laurentide Environment is always seeking solutions to maximize the percentage of post-consumer materials in the product lifecycle.
As a result, a significant quantity of used batteries is recycled each year, preventing them from ending up in landfills and avoiding the harmful environmental impacts.
Since 2012, our company has been awarded the Sustainability Leader Award by Call to Recycle every year, recognizing organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to battery recycling.
A leader in battery recycling in Quebec, Laurentide Environment has diverted 575,105 kilograms of batteries from landfills and safely recycled them.
