Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
Laurentide Environment actively participates in the recycling of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) containing mercury through the RecycFluo program. Consumers first drop off their CFLs, fluorescent tubes, and other mercury-containing lamps at one of the 400 drop-off points across Quebec, while businesses can use a collection service for larger quantities. Laurentide Environment receives these products to sort them and send them to companies that will ensure the lamps are properly recycled.
Approximately 98% of the materials in mercury-containing lamps are recyclable, keeping hazardous materials out of landfills.
