Shawinigan, January 18, 2018 – Société Laurentide is proud in announcing its research partnership with CNETE, the National Center in Electro-chemistry and Environmental Technologies, the Collegiate Technology Transfer Center (CCTT) at the Shawinigan College, inside its premises. In fact, as part of the expansion project and renovation to the research center for CNETE, Société Laurentide is pleased to welcome its research partner to its temporary location. The all new Research and Innovation Center in Shawinigan owned by Société Laurentide, situated at 5230 Boulevard Royal, creates a synergy between a post-consumer paint manufacturer and a national research center. Every effort has been made to render the premises compliant on all levels with respect to the research laboratory requirements, regarding fire hazards, explosions, ceiling heights, waste- water treatment solutions, etc. « This location for us at CNETE answered to all of our needs and expectations. Its the best choice, at a low cost out of all other options that we looked over », says Ms. Nancy Déziel, General Manager at CNETE.

This announcement is significant for Société Laurentide’s Research and Innovation Center. The arrival of this new partner, by its proximity, creates a sector of technological excellence dedicated to post-consumer coatings and paints

in Shawinigan. In addition, this alliance optimizes the potential for projects currently underway, such as the project for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research (CRSNG), Innovation Passport project with the Quebec Government (MESI), along with MITACS (national research organization) in collaboration with the Industrial Ecology Transfert Center at the Sorel-Tracy College (CTTEI). This strategic alliance will accelerate research efforts in order to develop best practices for the conversion of solids (post- consumer paint residues) transforming useable materials by integrating them into new materials, which in return are in line with developing a model for a circular economy. Among the immense challenges imposed by growth of the world economy, the use of post-consumer materials and the preservation of resources become favourable economic issues for sustainable development. « Giving new life to materials once considered unusable has rapidly become the obvious, corporate orientation and philosophy of our company. Today, we consider it a step closer in creating a sector in technological excellence dedicated to coatings and paints in Shawinigan », proudly points out, André Buisson, President of Société Laurentide.

In addition to the success of Boomerang Recycled Paint* other examples of successful post-consumer paint transformations are very promising, such as the additive to the preparation of concrete, as well as the creation of the asphalt restorer made with 99% recycled materials. « Two concrete pours were performed in collaboration with Laurentide Re/sources, CTTEI, ECO-PEINTURE and the cities of Victoriaville and Sorel-Tracy; « a culture change starting with the concrete industry with this conclusive experience », states Mr. Mario Clermont, General Manager for Laurentide Re-sources, a division of Société Laurentide.

In closing, the formal signing of the lease was performed during the press conference. It is with great enthusiasm that Mr. Buisson underlines the desire that this excellent alliance between CNETE and Société Laurentide may continue, in short and long term and propel the Center for Research and Innovation, in Shawinigan to its highest levels.
